Iyengar Yoga Survey

Posted by Kathleen Powell on Tuesday August 28th, 2018 at 3:59pm

For the past few years one of the goals of the association has been to build awareness of the Iyengar name in New Zealand and create more understanding of what differentiates our method of yoga from others in the marketplace.

As a first step in this initiative our PR team has put together two surveys – one for teachers and students of Iyengar yoga, and the other for those who are not Iyengar yoga students (or perhaps not even yoga students at all).  The aim is to get a feel for current perceptions and understandings of Iyengar yoga in the broader community.  This information will then be used to launch a PR campaign which will be run through social media and other online avenues.

If you are an Iyengar yoga teacher, trainee or student please take a few minutes to complete the survey by clicking here.  Also, please distribute this to your Iyengar yoga students and friends. Your input is much appreciated!

We will add the link for the general survey soon.

Documentary to celebrate BKS Iyengar’s 100th Birth Anniversary

Posted by Anna Timms on Tuesday December 26th, 2017 at 7:23pm

Dear Sādhaka,

Bulletin Board Poster

On December 14, 2018, we will be celebrating the birth centenary of our Beloved Guruji. Each of us has been immensely touched by him and his teachings in many different ways. This is irrespective of the amount of time that we may have spent with him. Some of us have spent years under him, some a few glimpses and many who have still been transformed by just following his path.

On this momentous occasion, Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI), Light on Yoga Research Trust (LOYRT) – Mumbai, and Different Strokes Communications are jointly embarking on a project to record the students’ impressions on the impact that Guruji has had on their lives. This will be a purely crowdsourced project, where each and every one of us will have a chance to become a filmmaker and have your unique voice reach out towards our Iyengar Yoga family worldwide!

All the students of Iyengar Yoga are welcome to participate in this project where all you need to do is record yourself talking in front of a camera and share with us – on how Guruji and his teachings have influenced and inspired you and how they have created an impact on the course of your life. We shall weave a tapestry of the most unique and inspiring voices, bringing us all much closer than ever before, and proving how all of us are connected in this journey together.  All details on participation, shooting of your video, submissions, etc., can be found on

Please find attached a poster which you can share with your students / fellow practitioners at your institute on the bulletin board. We look forward to your participation.
