The aftermath of Cyclone Gabrielle – including practice sequence

Posted by Kathleen Powell on Monday February 20th, 2023 at 5:02pm

Dear Members of Iyengar Yoga New Zealand

We hope this email finds you well.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, we would like to express our heartfelt concern for the safety and well-being of our members, teachers and yoga studios in all districts that have been affected by flooding and by the devastating effects of Cyclone Gabrielle. We know that members and studios have been affected and our thoughts are with you.

After Covid, I think we all were looking to 2023 to be a year of calm and stability to practice, to teach, to develop in our yoga. But the Auckland floods and the devastating cyclone Gabrielle last week, have put challenges in front of some of you and your local neighbourhoods.

We include here an article from the Yoga Rahasya Vol 16 No 1:  2009 titled Facing Traumatic Situations. The article includes a short practice sequence which you may find helpful in the coming days and weeks. Click here for the article.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us for support. We are your community and are here to help in any way we can.

Welcome back from Australia, the members that travelled to attend the convention with Abhijata – what a wonderful opportunity you have had. For those of you travelling to Raglan for the annual convention in March – we look forward to seeing you there and sharing the weekend together.

Wishing you all the best

The IYNZ Executive Committee
