“Sūtra by Sūtra, Body by Body: Yoga Sūtra I.14 and the Logic of Deep Practice”
Sa tu dīrgha-kāla-nairantarya-satkār
In this session we will explore this sūtra: What does dīrgha-kāla ask of us? What does nairantaryademand? And what does satkāra (reverence, care, appropriate attitude) look like in the body, in the way we approach a prāṇāyāma session, a Śīrṣāsana, or a quiet Śavāsana?
Drawing on Patañjali’s sūtras alongside Iyengar’s commentary in Light on the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, we explore what it means to read a classical text through the body. The sūtras are instructions. They become legible through practice. For teachers and experienced practitioners, this is an invitation to look again at something familiar and find it newly alive.
Recommended Reading: B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, on Sūtras I.12–16.
