Demelza is the founder and principal teacher at Iyengar Yoga Dunedin. She has been a student of Iyengar Yoga for over ten years and is a teacher certified by the Iyengar Yoga New Zealand Association.

Demelza discovered Iyengar Yoga while recovering from several surgeries. At the time, she had a corporate job with high levels of responsibility and stress. Yoga become the pathway to healing post-surgery. Finding a balance between the corporate world and living a simple life and ultimately achieving movement in her inherently stiff body. Having never forgotten what it was like to be a raw beginner with a body that did not move, she has great compassion for those starting out on their yoga journey.

Demelza’s journey began with Jyoteeka Cummings in Palmerston North. Resulting in her working as Jyoteeka’s apprentice while undertaking Iyengar Teacher Training. During this time she worked with Sue Everett from Melbourne who has been a big influence on her yoga journey. A fortuitous meeting with Kelly Sobanski has led to ongoing study with both Kelly and Lois Steinberg from the USA. This has deepened and broadened Demelza’s practice and teaching. Demelza has studied at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute with the Iyengar family in Pune, India. She is committed to the ongoing learning and development of herself and her students.
