Meet Eira Kramer
Level 3
I started practicing yoga in my 30s, by lucky chance the first class I went to happened to be an Iyengar one. For me, from this moment, there was no looking back. I felt like I had come home.
I lived in Zimbabwe then, and when I moved to New Zealand I decided to train as a teacher. I trained at North Shore Yoga under Joy Sanders.
Yoga is my passion, and that it is a practice-based system suits me: I practice in good times, I practice in bad times, and I practice at all the times in between.
Over the years I moved up the levels of certification; I am now a Level 3 teacher. When I first became a teacher, I decided to become involved in the organisation and administration of IYNZ. I joined the Executive Committee and have been a member on and off for over a decade. I believe that this is a way of giving back and being part of the Iyengar community. I’ve also been on the Ethics Committee, the A&TT and have been the Editor of the Yoga Link. A few years ago, I trained to be an assessor.
I teach at my studio – The Yoga Room in Kumeu; I also teach at North Shore Yoga Takapuna, the studio where I started my Iyengar journey in New Zealand, and at Golden Yogi in Takapuna. I also run a Teacher Training programme.
Eira began practising Iyengar Yoga in Zimbabwe in the 1990s, and started teacher training when she moved to New Zealand. She passed Introductory Level 1 in 2009, then Introductory Level 2 in 2010 Eira gained her Junior Intermediate (J.I.) Level 1 certification in 2011 and her Junior Intermediate Level 2 in 2014. In 2018 she successfully passed Level 3 and is now qualified to run teacher training.
Eira brings a wonderful compassion to her teaching and has some great tips from practicing for so long in Zimbabwe.
